Abstract

|
We isolated two tumor-associated membrne proteins (proteins a and b) by extracting with 3M KCI from salivary tumors induced by 7, 12- dimethylbenz [a] anthracene. Immunoelectrophoresis and double immunodiffusion of the two proteins were carried out using proteins from liver, heart, skin and pancreas of adult rats and embryonic liver, heart and skin as test antigens. The rabbit antibody against protein a did not cross-react with any of proteins form the above-mentioned tissues, indicating it is a tumor-specific antigen. However, the rabbit antibody against protein b form a precipitate with a protein from livers of adult rats and embryos. Polyacrylamide gel elctrophoresis of the proteins shows that protein a is a dimer with molecular weight of the subunits being 69,000 and 35,000 and protein b is a monomer of 50,000.
